Luang Prabang has markets, monks and ageing hippies. An eclectic town, it is a wonderful place to observe the morning alms giving to the monks. The monks' baskets are filled to overflowing and assistants walk behind with bags to collect the extra rice, treats and money. Beggars wait at the end of the daily routine with boxes, hoping to be given some of the excess.
