festival | bhujangga waisnawa temple
As we left the rice terraces of Jatiluwih we noticed lots of people dressed in their finest clothes and followed them to see where they were going. Thus we found oursleves at another village festival, part of the full moon celebrations. We chatted with the villagers as we all waited for the rain to stop and were invited to come into the temple to take photographs. I was given tea and sweetmeats by the ladies and had some lovely conversations about skin colour (they preferred mine - no idea why as they are so incredibly beautiful) and getting older. As ever they wanted to know if I was married and shocked to find out I wasn't (!), how old I was and whether I had children. Some of the younger women spoke excellent English and made the whole encounter so rewarding. They also teased me endlessly about being barefoot (I had taken off my hiking boots) and having my sarong on top of trousers. I'd have been happy to stay there all day.
